I’ve financed numerous trivision billboards and own a couple trivision billboards. Here’s my take on the pros and cons of owning a trivision.
Pros of Owning a Trivision
- Lower capital cost. A new trivision head runs $26,000/side, versus $150,000-200,000 for a digital billboard.
- Lower Electricity – My trivision has electric costs of $100/month or almost the same as my static boards. A digital board’s electric bill will be at least 2-3 times higher.
- Fewer permit issues – Most communities which prohibit digital boards permit trivisions. I’ve got a couple Trivisions in Indianapolis in areas where I’d like to put up digital but can’t due to a moratorium.
- Fewer landlord issues – Most land leases allow you to convert a sign from single face to trivision without renegotiating the lease.
Cons of Owning a Trivision
- Cold Weather Issues – I’ve had my trivisions freeze up after a period of rain followed by freezing temperatures.
- Higher Vinyl Costs – The PVC vinyl strips for a trivison will cost $600-700 versus $300 for a flexible vinyl face.
- Fewer flips than digital – A trivision allows you to sell 3 flips a side versus 6-8 flips for digital.
